In my practice, I have often been asked questions about toxins and heavy metals.
Having dealt with heavy metal poisoning myself, I know just how it can make you feel and how difficult it can be to get rid of.
Often times we don’t even know we are exposed.

Living in a modern society we are exposed to toxins and heavy metals everywhere: the air we breathe or the tap water we drink everyday.
You might not think that could be an issue, however, every breath of polluted air we take in or chlorinated water we drink absorbs right into our body.

The heavy metals most commonly associated with poisoning of humans are lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium.
Heavy metal poisoning may occur as a result of industrial exposure, air or water pollution, foods, medicines, improperly coated food containers, or the ingestion of lead-based paints.

One of the things these toxins and heavy metals can cause is oxidative stress.
Oxidative stress is essentially an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the presence of antioxidants. Meaning, the more we are exposed to the unclean air, water and food, the more free radicals will be produced. And when we don’t eat clean organic whole food at every meal, every day, we can not keep up with all the free radicals.
Picture the old computer game Packman, the little cheese is the free radical and it eats all the antioxidants on it’s way.
The more free radicals we have in our system, the more likely we are to get one or more of the “lifestyle” diseases we know today, such as Migraines, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, chronic fatigue syndrome, inflammatory diseases, and even cancers.
Also, heavy metals are known to interfere with our endocrine system which is all of our glands, (thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pancreas, ovaries or testicles etc), affecting our reproduction ability, cause canser and affect our brain function!
You can read more about harmful toxins here

So what can we do about all this?
First of all, eat clean organic whole food! Doing that your body will provide really good antioxidants, which your body needs big time.
Second, have a water filter installed in you house or apartment. That way you can always get clean water. Bottled water is not a solution, as most bottles contain endocrine disrupters!! And the water is NOT clean spring water. Also, it is expensive in the long run, and the empty bottles are disposed into our landfills and oceans.
Third, make sure there are no larger industry, power plants and power lines close to your hours/apartment. However much the industry claims they filter everything before letting it out, there will always be something left.

If you have a heavy metal poisoning and/or oxidative stress (a blood test can determine that), there are still a lot you can do the natural way.
Switch to clean, organic, whole food, and build your gut health.
Make sure you get enough water every day to help transport toxins out of your body.
That’s a good start. Then find a really good MD or holistic practitioner who can guide you, and give you the right tools to detox completely and get back in balance.

However, it’s still not everywhere they do a test for oxidative stress. If that’s the case, you have to look online for a clinic that does it, or contact Genova Diagnostics
